How Binomo Works and How to Use It

Binomo is an online platform for fixed-time trades, which are binary options under another name. You pick an asset, choose whether its price will be higher or lower at a set expiry, and stake a fixed amount. If you’re right, you get your stake back plus a payout of roughly 80% to 90%. If you’re wrong, you lose the whole stake. Binomo is run by Dolphin Corp LLC. It is not licensed by any major financial regulator, and Brazil’s securities regulator has formally acted against it.

Binomo ads are everywhere: YouTube pre-rolls, Instagram reels, influencers showing a green trade closing at the last second. The pitch is simple. Deposit a small amount, predict up or down, and make money in a minute. The mechanics really are that simple. What the ads leave out is what makes the product hard to win at, and why several countries have banned or restricted it. This guide covers both: how to use Binomo, and what you need to understand before you put money on it.

What Binomo is and who runs it

Binomo is a proprietary trading platform, available on the web and as a mobile app. Users speculate on short-term price movements in currency pairs, cryptocurrencies, commodities, stocks and indices. The company behind it is Dolphin Corp LLC, the name the Brazilian Securities Commission (CVM) identified as the operator when it issued a stop order in 2020.

You never own the asset you trade. Dolphin’s own client agreement, quoted in a CVM settlement opinion, describes the product as financial instruments derived from assets whose use does not result in actually acquiring the asset. So when you “buy” EUR/USD or Bitcoin on Binomo, you’re entering a contract with the platform about where a price will be at a certain moment.

How Binomo works in practice

A Binomo trade has four inputs: the asset, the stake, the expiry time and the direction (up or down). Once you confirm, the result is decided only by whether the price at expiry sits above or below your entry price. How far it moved doesn’t matter.

A worked example of a Binomo trade

Illustrative example. You open EUR/USD at 1.0850 with a $10 stake, a 1-minute expiry and “Up.” The platform shows an 85% payout for that asset at that moment.

  • If EUR/USD closes at 1.0851 or higher, you get $18.50 back ($10 stake plus $8.50 profit).
  • If it closes at 1.0850 or lower, you lose $10.

A tiny move in your favor pays the same as a large one. A tiny move against you costs everything. That all-or-nothing structure is why regulators treat these products differently from ordinary trading.

Why the payout below 100% decides the outcome

This is the part most tutorials skip. Because a winning trade pays less than a losing trade costs, you need to win well over half your trades just to break even. The break-even win rate is 1 ÷ (1 + payout).

Payout offered Break-even win rate Result over 100 trades of $10 at a 50% win rate
80% 55.6% −$100
85% 54.1% −$75
90% 52.6% −$50

On one-minute charts, price movement is close to random, so a win rate near 50% is a realistic baseline for someone without a real edge. At that rate, the table shows you lose steadily however disciplined you are. The math works against the user before strategy even comes into it.

Who is on the other side of your trade

On a stock exchange you trade against other market participants. On a fixed-time platform, the counterparty is the platform itself. The CVM’s analysis states that Dolphin issued the derivatives and distributed them itself. So the operator’s revenue is tied to what clients lose. That doesn’t prove any particular trade is unfair. It does mean the incentives run against you, and it explains why the details of payouts, bonuses and withdrawal rules matter so much.

Is Binomo regulated and legal

Binomo holds no license from a top-tier financial regulator such as the US SEC or CFTC, the UK’s FCA, Australia’s ASIC or Cyprus’s CySEC. Its legal status depends on where you live, and in several major markets the answer is clearly no.

Brazil and the CVM stop order

In June 2020, the CVM published Ato Declaratório nº 17.942. It stated that Dolphin Corp had no authorization to take on clients residing in Brazil and ordered it to stop offering these investments. The CVM treated the product as a derivative contract, which puts it inside the legal definition of a security.

The case continued after that. According to the CVM’s settlement committee opinion, regulators found the Brazilian-facing site, Portuguese content and local payment methods (Pix, boleto, lottery outlets) still active in 2022. Dolphin first offered R$300,000 to settle. It eventually agreed to pay R$2.4 million. It also committed to showing a disclaimer that Binomo isn’t authorized in Brazil, removing Brazilian Portuguese from its sites and apps, listing Brazil as a restricted country in its terms, and ending marketing aimed at Brazilians, including influencer partnerships.

In practice, this means any Binomo promotion you see aimed at Brazilian residents today goes against the company’s own commitments to the regulator.

European Union and United Kingdom

Binary options can’t be sold to retail clients in the EU or the UK. The FCA made its ban permanent on 2 April 2019, matching the restrictions ESMA had already applied across the EU. An FCA executive director described these products as “gambling products dressed up as financial instruments.” The FCA also warned that any firm offering binary options to UK retail consumers is likely a scam.

India

Binomo appears on the Reserve Bank of India’s Alert List of platforms that are not authorized to deal in forex or to operate an electronic trading platform for forex. In February 2023, India’s Enforcement Directorate carried out raids linked to the use of Binomo, Olymp Trade and ExpertOption under foreign-exchange law.

What FinaCom membership does and does not mean

Binomo often points to its membership of the International Financial Commission (FinaCom). FinaCom is a private dispute-resolution body, not a government regulator. Review sites describe it as a complaints channel with a compensation fund that may cover eligible claims up to €20,000, depending on the commission’s decision. That’s better than nothing. It doesn’t replace licensing, capital requirements, segregated client funds or the enforcement power a national regulator has.

How to use Binomo step by step

Where the platform is legally available to you, using Binomo takes only a few steps. Before starting, check the terms for your country. The restricted-country list changes, and account conditions differ by region.

Opening an account and practicing on the demo

Registration only asks for an email and a password, a detail the CVM also noted in its investigation. You then get a demo account with virtual money. Several reviews, including Fortunly, report a $10,000 virtual balance.

Use the demo for what it’s actually good for: learning the interface, how expiry times work and how quickly a position resolves. Don’t use it to “prove” a strategy. A few good days on a demo tell you almost nothing, for the same statistical reason shown in the break-even table.

Binomo account tiers

Account conditions vary between sources and regions, so treat these as commonly reported figures rather than guarantees.

Tier Minimum deposit (commonly reported) Main differences
Demo Free Virtual balance, full interface
Standard $10 Real trading, tournaments, lower maximum payout
Gold $500 More assets, faster withdrawals, weekly cashback
VIP $1,000 Highest payouts (around 87% to 90%), personal manager

Some reviewers, such as Traders Union, list much higher thresholds for Gold and VIP. That’s one more reason to check the live terms in your account. The minimum stake per trade is usually reported as $1.

Placing a trade on the platform

  1. Pick an asset from the list. The payout shown next to it can change during the day.
  2. Set the expiry time.
  3. Enter the stake.
  4. Tap Up or Down.
  5. Wait for expiry. The result is settled automatically.

The platform includes standard charting tools such as moving averages, RSI, Bollinger Bands and Fibonacci drawing. They’re useful for reading a chart. They don’t change the payout math.

Deposits, bonuses and withdrawals

Deposits are usually credited right away. Withdrawals are where most complaints come from. Before your first withdrawal, identity verification (photo ID and proof of payment method) may be required, so do it early instead of when you need the money. Several reviews, including ExpertInvestor, report a 10% fee on withdrawals made before the deposited amount has been traded a required number of times.

The bonus trap

Deposit bonuses look like free money. They come with turnover requirements. One complaint recorded by the CVM makes this concrete. A user deposited R$400, automatically received a R$220 bonus, and was then told they’d need to trade more than R$7,000 before withdrawing anything. Given the break-even math, forcing that much volume through a product with a negative edge is exactly how a balance shrinks. If you use Binomo, decline bonuses unless you’ve read and accepted the exact wagering conditions.

Common mistakes new Binomo users make

The trouble starts when a new user treats a short winning streak as proof of skill. On one-minute expiries, streaks of five or six wins are statistically normal and don’t mean anything.

The next mistake is doubling the stake after a loss, known as martingale, to “win it back.” It works until a losing run of normal length wipes out the account, and that run comes sooner than people expect.

Other common errors include accepting a bonus without reading the turnover rules, buying signals or courses from affiliates (the CVM found affiliates were paid a share of referred clients’ activity, which makes their incentives obvious), and depositing money you’d need back quickly, before verification is done.

Binomo compared with regulated alternatives

Fixed-time platforms tend to share the same model. IQ Option, Olymptrade, Quotex and Pocket Option have all faced regulatory warnings in one or more countries, and several appear on the same RBI Alert List as Binomo. Switching brand doesn’t change the structure.

Criterion Binomo Regulated broker via a local Home Broker
Who supervises it FinaCom (private body) National regulator (e.g., CVM, SEC, FCA)
Counterparty The platform itself Other market participants via an exchange
Outcome per trade Fixed payout or total loss Profit or loss proportional to price movement
Typical holding period Seconds to minutes Days to years
Investor protection Limited dispute fund Legal oversight, segregated accounts, formal complaint channels

This works well for someone who wants short-term exposure to price moves. A regulated derivatives or stock account gives that without the fixed-payout handicap. It’s not a perfect substitute, though. Regulated day trading is also hard, and most retail day traders lose money there too. The difference is that the product itself isn’t built so you need well above 50% accuracy just to break even.

What really matters

  • Binomo’s payout below 100% means you need a win rate above roughly 53% to 56% just to break even, before any strategy.
  • The platform is your counterparty, so its revenue is linked to client losses.
  • Brazil’s CVM ordered Binomo to stop soliciting Brazilian residents, and Dolphin Corp agreed to pay R$2.4 million to settle.
  • The EU and UK ban binary options for retail clients. India lists Binomo as unauthorized.
  • FinaCom membership is a dispute channel, not a license.
  • Bonuses usually lock your money behind turnover requirements. Declining them is the safer default.

So should you use Binomo

Binomo is easy to use, and that ease is exactly what makes it risky. You can go from sign-up to a real-money trade in a few minutes, and nothing in that flow makes clear that the payout structure puts you at a disadvantage on every trade. The regulatory record adds to that. Brazil, the UK, the EU and India have all concluded, in different ways, that this product or this company shouldn’t be offered to their residents.

If you’re curious how short-term markets behave, the demo account costs nothing and teaches you the interface. If you want to put real money into trading, a regulated broker supervised in your own country gives you a fairer product and a regulator to turn to when something goes wrong. Money you deposit on Binomo should be money you’re fully prepared to lose.

Frequently asked questions
Is Binomo legal in Brazil?

No. The CVM issued a stop order in 2020 stating that Dolphin Corp, Binomo’s operator, is not authorized to take on clients residing in Brazil. In the settlement accepted in 2024, the company committed to excluding Brazilian residents and ending marketing aimed at Brazil.

Is Binomo a scam or a real platform?

Binomo is a real operating platform. Users can deposit, trade and, according to CVM records, sometimes withdraw more than they deposited. “Real” and “regulated” aren’t the same thing, though. It lacks top-tier licensing, it’s the counterparty to your trades, and regulators have recorded withdrawal complaints.

How much money do I need to start on Binomo?

The minimum deposit is commonly reported as $10 and the minimum stake as $1. Higher tiers require larger deposits, and exact thresholds vary by country and source. A low minimum makes it easy to start, which isn’t the same as being low-risk.

Can you really make money on Binomo?

Some individual users profit over short periods. Consistent profit is unlikely, because payouts of 80% to 90% require a win rate above about 53% to 56% just to break even. On very short expiries, reaching that rate reliably is extremely difficult.

Does the Binomo demo account use real money?

No. The demo uses virtual funds, commonly reported as $10,000, and you can’t withdraw them. It’s useful for learning the platform. Results there don’t predict real-money performance.

How long does a Binomo withdrawal take?

It depends on the account tier, the payment method and whether verification is complete. Higher tiers advertise faster withdrawals. Finishing identity verification before you request a withdrawal avoids the most common delays, and bonuses can block withdrawals until turnover conditions are met.

Is Binomo regulated by the Financial Commission?

Binomo is a member of the International Financial Commission (FinaCom), a private dispute-resolution organization. FinaCom isn’t a government regulator. It doesn’t license brokers or supervise their capital the way the SEC, FCA or CVM do.

What is the difference between Binomo and a regular broker?

On Binomo you bet on price direction for a fixed payout, and the platform takes the other side. With a regulated broker you buy or sell actual instruments on an exchange, gains and losses follow the size of the price move, and a national regulator oversees the firm.
